2018 SFUA ANNUAL AWARD WINNERS

Presented at Mildura Working Man's Club. Trophies supplied by AV Trophies.

Maddie commenced her first year of umpiring unsure of whether it was for her.

Through regular training, willingness to take on board feedback and persistence for improvement; she mastered the basic skills of boundary umpiring - progressing to Under 18 level for several games.

Congratulations Maddie for stepping out of your comfort zone and excelling in your first year!
SFUA Junior Coaches Award
Jonty began is first year of umpiring while still playing footy. Before we knew it he had dropped footy and was loving umpiring.
A quiet achiever, Jonty was a regular fixture on the boundary in Under 18 and Reserves football, culminating in achieving an Under 18 Grand Final appointment.
Great work Jonty!

Wal Robson Best First Year Senior Umpire

Colin joined us from Wentworth FC as part of the Club Umpire program with the SFNL and from the first session, impressed with his knowledge of the game and willingness to learn and apply to his umpiring.

It didn't take long for him to join the SFUA as an official umpire - seeing him work through the ranks of Under 16, Under 18 and Reserves Field umpiring as the season went on.

His season culminated in officiating an Under 13 Grand Final in a two umpire system - a great achievement for a first year Field umpire!

Well Done Colin - we look forward to seeing you continue to excel on field and sharing your passion for the umpiring on and off field over the coming years!

Colin Garraway

Proving that footy lovers truly can get the best seat in the house, is umpiring convert Andrew Woodcock, who was awarded the Barry Fechner Goal Umpire of the Year in just his second year of umpiring.

His passion to learn and thorough enjoyment shines through on and off the ground.

Caleb Garraway
Bob Capp Boundary Umpire of the Year

While his Dad, Shane Garraway may be a decorated Field Umpire, success has not been  automatic for young Caleb Garraway.

This award is a testament to an outstanding young man whose development over the past eight years has resulted in him becoming our strongest Boundary Umpire.

It was a combination of football nous developed from his time playing with the Gol Gol Hawks in the Millewa and a dedication to constant improvement on ground, that saw Jason Bruhn awarded with the Gary Green Field Umpire of the Year Award.

Bruhn thanked his fellow members for their support to his family, despite a tough year off-field health wise.

Bob Capp & Dave Robertson - Junior Umpire of the Year

The Bob Capp and Dave Robertson Junior Umpire of the Year Award is our most prestigious accolade for young members and this year's recipient is a very deserving winner of such an honour.

Dave's first day of umpiring was on a warm day during pre-season out at Wentworth, where he ran a ridiculous three full games while getting extra training on his throw in's during his breaks. This day is the perfect indication of the type of young man David is. Hard working, dedicated and determined.

He moved very quickly into boundary umpiring at a Senior level and was a constant fixture in senior matches throughout the year. He continued to work on his key skills and the improvement from this work has truly shown through. He was also a regular attendee at Thursday night lectures and dinners, joining his sister Ashleigh as an umpire and introducing their Mum - the ever smiling Mary, to the SFUA fold.

David ended his first season of umpiring being acknowledged with his 3 Senior Game whistle and umpired on the Boundary in the Under 18 Grand Final.

We have no doubt that David has a strong future ahead of him in umpiring and we look forward to supporting him in achieving his best.
